How is IQ score calculated?

  • Updated

Your IQ Pro result is based on how many questions you answered correctly and how your performance compares to a broader group of test takers using standard statistical scoring.

Please note: the IQ test on IQ Pro is intended for adults. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

1. Scoring your answers

After you finish the test, each answer is checked for accuracy. The total number of correct answers becomes your raw score.

2. Converting to a standardized IQ score

Your raw score is converted into a standardized IQ score so results can be compared consistently. This uses a normalization method based on a bell curve (normal distribution), where the average is set to 100 and most scores fall within a typical range around that average.

3. Percentile ranking

Alongside your IQ score, you may also see a percentile, which shows how your score compares to others. For example, a higher percentile means your score is higher than a larger share of test takers.

Below is a general interpretation guide:

IQ Score Range Percentile Range Interpretation
131 and higher 99 Exceptionally High
116–130 68–98 Above Average
101–115 51–67 Average to Above Average
100 50 Exact Population Average
85–99 33–49 Below Average to Average
70–84 2–32 Low
69 and lower 1 Significantly Below Average
